Find a good printer! - essential!
The more you can take away, the better!
Screen printing gives you a unique artifact, it's nice having a tactile piece of finished work.
Logo's for the Leeds International Beer Festival. For logo's you must keep things simple, good to allow yourself to work in a very simple way.
Surface pattern design influences work; he creates his own patterns in his spare time and uses these throughout his work.
Once you leave uni and it's resources it's good to find print workshops or studios, there are many around the country although it's hard to find reliable printers.
Start off with shapes to get the layout, then use tracing paper to re-draw over the top and clean up work and add details.

Artist Research: The London Illustration Fair

OUIL502: A-Three: Market Research

I decided to carry out some market research in the city of leeds. I explored loads of stationary and accessory shops which all had some fantastic products. I love the ones that have complex or visually beautiful designs on with really colourful and atmospheric themes. I never go for the simple ones! However I think this was important to look at as we are researching into creating a business that looks at supplying wrapping paper with loads of beautiful illustrations on.

Leeds University Library Illustration Exhibition

Leeds University Library Illustration Exhibition

This exhibition was really cool to see as it had such a variation of artwork by a range of illustrators. It was nice to see the range of contexts and contents these practitioners were working in and how they can all come together to form one exhibition despite these differences. One I really loved used a layering technique with tracing paper but drew with charcoal. The work looked like it focussed in on particular parts and there was amazing detail in these sections; these stood out even more because of the fact that the artists smudged the rest of the work creating a juxtaposition between the mark making.
